HSC pass rate falls by 4pc

The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations published this afternoon show a more than four percent fall in pass rate compared to last year's results.

The pass rate in the HSC examinations this year under eight general education boards stands at 70.43 percent, down from the last year's 74.85 percent.

Average 72.78 percent students passed the HSC and its equivalent Alim and Business Management examinations this year under 10 education boards.

Some 84.14 percent students passed the HSC examinations under the madrasa board while 81.27 percent under technical education board this year.

Jessore board stood first among the eight general education boards with 78.23 percent students passing the HSC examinations this year.

The pass rate stands at 76.31 percent at Chittagong board, 71.53 percent at Dhaka board, 70.47 percent at Rajshahi board, 73.96 percent at Sylhet board, 55.90 percent at Dinajpur board, 67.20 percent at Barisal board and 66.99 percent at Comilla board.

About 18,222 students obtained GPA-5 in the HSC examinations under the eight general education boards. A total 20,136 students achieved GPA-5 under the 10 education boards.

The number of colleges with hundred percent pass records has increased to 755 from last year's 674, while the number of colleges with zero pass remain unchanged at 41.

The HSC examination, second largest public examination of the country, began on April 16. As many as 6.07 lakh students sat for the HSC and its equivalent exams under Dhaka, Rajshahi, Comilla, Jessore, Chittagong, Sylhet, Barisal, and Dinajpur boards and the madrasa board and technical education board this year.

Of them, 3.33 lakh are male examinees while 2.74 lakh female.
